THREE KINGS CHESS GAMEPLAY

ALLIANCES ARE DOOMED TO BE BROKEN

There are many three player chess variants. All have different rules, board set-up, and board design. The following are the official rules developed by Three Kings Chess after decades of playing three player chess. We have found this to be the most balanced way to play.

White Corner On Right

Place your Three Kings Chess board on a table, ensuring a white square is beneath the right Rook when setting up your pieces.

As in traditional chess: White is Right.

Check Your Setup

All three players should be setup with Rook, Knight, Bishop and Queen/King on the back row; pawns filling in the front.

The King is always to the right of the Queen.

Play Moves Clockwise

In general, White makes the first move and gameplay then moves clockwise from that position (eg: white, red, and black).

Traditional Movement

Piece movement follows the same rules of traditional chess until we reach the center.

Check & Checkmate

The first player who checks is the one who wins the checkmate; regardless if another player’s move completes the actual checkmate.
